Guatemala have lovely places that one should discover, Finca El Zapote definitely is one of it. It is not only located at the bottom of two amazing and astonishing Volcanos, Agua and Fuego, but it also beautifully landscaped with elegant English gardens. In brief the perfect place to explore nature. And that was what we were doing there during our retreat.  We started with a dialogue with Roberto Blum on the book Gödel, Esher, Bach that point our attention to “observation”. Then we had time to explore the place and find a place that would become ours during the time there. I chose a beautiful hill next to the lakes that for me looked “sexy”. It was a nice place to become one with nature and where to read “Seeing” by Dillard and “Walden” by Thoreau.

At El Zapote, we also tried to watch the stars, but rain didn’t allowed us to do it. But that didn’t stopped our desire to talk about the sky and after a fire with some friends we talked about life, the universe, and God. Then we also explores the real natural ground and we went to the water fall up the river… what a great experience! After failing a lot of times to climb the last stage I had a revelation: Even if you have the technical information and you “know” how to do it, what matters the most is how much you want to do it! So finally after my seventh trial I did it! It was such a great moment for me.  That experience and the insights that I gained about what means to be human made this trip unforgettable.
