What is the book about as a whole?

The book is about the adventures of Don Quixote, an Spanish hidalgo from the XV century who believes himself is a medieval knight and chooses to live his life as he were. Although nominally he is a crazy person his acts and adventures teaches us a great deal of lessons for life.

What of it?

Since I was a child I wanted to read this book, in my house we have a copy that I looked very often, but hoping to find the right moment or vacations from school to do so I failed to actually do it. Fortunately this year I had the chance to get in contact again with the book and I just realized how much I’ve been missing. Fortunately I had not only the chance to read it but do it with friends, among I’m happy to include Amable Sanchez a true modern gentleman.

Attending the advice of Amable with a group of friends we got together and read out loud Don Quixote on the lawn at the university. It was a truly magical experience, the words of Cervantes getting alive again. What surprised me the most was the clear, common and very familiar language he used. The jokes were so funny even if we have a span of various centuries between us. His joyful style of writing so close to the reader really inspire me to write in that way.

But besides the familiarity and the joyful style I also found a great theme: following one own dreams no matter what other might have to say. In many senses he was true to what we believed, he might have decided to sit in his chair and dream about the adventures he would love to have but instead of that he chose to go out his comfort zone and dare the world. He was a true hero not because he won all the battles he a fought, in fact he lost most of all, but because he had ideals for which to fight.
